Cyber Security Week

Stay Smart Online

Cyper SecurityBankSA supports National Cyber Security Awareness Week, 6 – 11 June 2010.

National Cyber Security Awareness week is an Australian Government initiative designed to raise the awareness of Australian internet users. It draws attention to the importance of cyber security and the simple steps we can all take to protect our personal and financial information online.

Australians are increasingly accessing the internet in a variety of ways to perform more complex transactions. The need for cyber security becomes even more important as a growing number of us use mobile phones, Wi-Fi, computer game consoles and other devices to access the internet.

National Cyber Security Awareness Week reminds Australians of six simple steps we can take to improve our online security at home and at work:

  1. Install security software and update it regularly.
  2. Turn on automatic updates so that your software gets the latest fixes.
  3. Set stronger passwords and change them at least twice a year.
  4. Stop and think before you click on links or attachments.
  5. Stop and think before you share any personal or financial information – about yourself, your friends or family.
  6. Know what your children are doing online. Make sure they know how to stay safe and encourage them to report anything suspicious.
