BankSA will be using Response Code categories to help you and your customers understand why a transaction has been declined. If you have a declined transaction, check the Response Code number, then follow the instructions on how to process the transaction.

What are Response Codes?
Response Codes are numeric codes located on a transaction receipt that indicate whether a transaction has been approved or declined.
BankSA will be using Response Code categories to help you and your customers understand why a transaction has been declined. This change may benefit you by improving your authorisation rates and better enhancing the overall transaction processing with your customers.
When will this change happen?
The Response Code categories for how you process declined transactions will come into effect on 1 May 2022.
What are the Response Code categories?

Confirm the card details
Check the Response Code for your next action

Check the transaction information to ensure the data is valid
Try the transaction again (you can do this on the same day)

What if the Response Code description is different to the declined transaction receipt?
If the Response Code text description is different to the description on the declined transaction receipt, we suggest you contact your Gateway provider for guidance on what actions you need to take.
